A D'Lighted Blog
Our Total Fundraising Goal & Wrap Up
As the season comes to a close, many memories were made for Christmas 2011.
It all began last April, when we went to one of Santa's workshops to get the process rolling. Making some of the items you see light up each year. We wrapped lights on pipes for days at a time, driven hours and states away to purchase new props for the show, and programmed the lights to the music.
Then, the end September came around quickly leading us into setup mode for the light show. First our huge trees of lights went up quickly, all 33K+, then we moved onto other things in the show. Santa's castle, animated characters, Nativity scene, and much more were set to greet our visitors.
Thanksgiving night, the final minute has arrived. We turned the switch on and hundreds came out to see the show for the first time. Judy Pancoast came by to sing The House On Christmas Street along with WXII12's Chief Meteorologist Lanie Pope to greet everyone on December 10. A chicken stew dinner was on tap with lots of food, fun, and music.
Santa made his arrival in a new sleigh this year looking outstanding in front of his castle. Each night he made a visit, children from every direction came by and told him what they wanted for Christmas. And, as a bonus, they walked away with chocolate candy. Yummy!
Now that Christmas 2011 has passed and the new year is here, we want to say "Thank You" for sharing your time with us. The light show is truly a gift to the community. All of the donations that came in were given to Glade Creek Fire Department to keep them in operation. Our 2011 total came out to $1,620. What a generous heart all of you have shown. The best part, that makes over $3K local charities have benefited from in four years.
We want to wish you a Happy New Year and look out for Thanksgiving 2012 (November 22nd). We plan to oohhh and awwww everyone once again. We're finalizing our plans now as we speak.
See you next November!
